TencentDB for SQL Server supports both automatic and manual backup methods for data backup. For automatic backup, depending on the backup retention policy, there are two scenarios: regular backup retention and long-term backup retention.
This document describes how to configure regular backup retention via the console.
Note:
Backups for TencentDB for SQL Server instances only cover user databases and do not include system databases.
The backup time is set to Beijing Time by default. If you modify the default time zone, the storage time of the backup data is displayed in the time zone of the instance server, but the console display remains Beijing (UTC+8) Time.
Automatic Backup Considerations
Backup files are stored in a dedicated backup space and do not occupy the local disk space of the instance.
Do not perform DDL operations during backup to avoid backup failures caused by table locking.
Perform backups during off-peak hours whenever possible.
If the data volume is large, the operation may take a long time. Please wait patiently.
Automatic Backup Description
Increasing the retention period for data backups and log backups may incur additional backup storage charges.
Reducing the log backup retention period may affect the data rollback cycle of the instance.
A free backup quota is provided. If the quota is exceeded, the excess portion will be charged based on usage.
Local backups consume the free storage quota, while cross-region backups do not. Charges are incurred for any cross-region backup generated.
Operation Steps
1. Log in to the TencentDB for SQL Server console.
2. Select a region at the top, locate the desired instance, and click Instance ID or Manage in the Operation column to go to the instance management page.
3. On the instance management page, select the Backup Management tab and click Auto Backup Settings.
4. In the dialog box that appears, configure the following items, read and select the backup storage billing description, and click Save.
Parameter | Description |
Start Time | Supports custom selection of the automatic backup time. It is recommended to set it during off-peak hours. The automatic backup time indicates only the start time of the backup, not the completion time. For example, if you select 01:00 - 02:00, the system initiates the backup at a specific time point within this range. The exact initiation time depends on the backend backup policy and the backup system status. |
Data Backup Retention Period | Backups are retained for -7 days by default. You can customize the retention period from 7 to 1830 days. Backup sets are automatically deleted upon expiration. |
Backup Cycle | Supports selecting any time from Monday to Sunday for backup. Attention: To ensure that the user's data backup retention period and backup cycle are available: If you set the backup retention period to less than 7 days, the backup cycle is automatically set to daily, and all days from Monday to Sunday are selected by default. If you set the backup retention period to greater than or equal to 7 days, you must schedule backups at least twice a week. If you select only one backup, you cannot click Save. |
Next Time | The currently configured backup cycle starts to be executed after this time. |
Periodic Archive | When you configure regular backup retention, the periodic retention switch remains disabled. |
Log Backup Retention Period | By default, it is displayed as synchronized with the data backup retention period and cannot be modified. That is, if the data backup retention period is set to 30 days, the log backup retention period is also 30 days. The backup set is automatically deleted upon expiration. Note: When the recovery model of TencentDB for SQL Server is Full, it can fully record all transactions, support transaction log backup, and support point-in-time recovery to avoid data loss. We strongly recommend that you use the Full model. Using the Simple recovery model does not perform log backup and does not support point-in-time recovery. Log Backup Frequency | Backups are performed once every 10 minutes by default. |
